PAYMENTS OF KADOMA’S COLD STORAGE COMMISSION PENSIONERS
HON. GIFT MAMBIPIRI (KADOMA CENTRAL) asked the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development to inform the House on the progress and modalities regarding the payments to Kadoma’s Cold Storage Commission (CSC) pensioners and laid-off workers, who are currently living in poverty.
THE MINISTER OF LANDS, AGRICULTURE, FISHERIES, WATER AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (HON. DR. ANXIOUS MASUKA): At this present moment, CSC is still under cooperate rescue and all creditors will be paid as per scheme arrangements order. With all the legalities, the company pensioners all were getting their NSSA payouts but this has stopped. I am informed that most of the workers were paid severance packages, only those who refused to collect did not receive. Workers are owed outstanding salaries which are part of CSC creditors. The House will be pleased to note that CSC now falls solely under the Mutapa Fund, no longer under our Ministry. CSC in the past, under its various schemes including beef production, exports, revitalised competition in the management support, job creation and so on. We will all be too happy to have CSC comes back online and help us to boost the national herd in line with livestock recovery and growth plan.
