#ElectionsZW: I am in it to bring real change says Precious Musarurwa

Labour Economists African Democrats (LEAD) candidate for Harare East constituency by-elections Precious Musarurwa says she is in it to bring real change to the constituency.

The constituency seat was won by Tendai Biti in the 2018 general elections before he was recalled from Parliament.

To win the seat, Precious Musarurwa will have to beat Tendai Biti (Citizens Coalition for Change), Mavis Gumbo (Zanu PF), Lovemore Christopher Mbanga (MDC Alliance), and Garikai Mlambo (United Zimbabwe Alliance).

However, Musarurwa is not feeling intimidated, adding that she is starting to work now. She said she will not wait for her party to first win the Presidential elections.

‘’The reason why I am coming to Harare East is I believe it is time for change. It’s time for me to lead, time for real change, the real change I am talking about is not promises, or social media promises but its work on the ground.

It’s time to empower and strengthen the capacities of women particularly like myself and women in my communities so that they fully appreciate their roles in the communities.

‘’This is from policymaking to social responses towards ensuring a safe environment for the constituency. So, you better vote for me. Voting for me means you voted for a woman, for a mother, for someone who fully understands your problem.

‘’Someone who will not lie to you and tell you that we must wait until we come to power. I am not going to wait for my party to win the Presidential so that my presence can be felt. I am going to work from now until I get this MP position,’’ she said.

We can do it together says Musarurwa

Musarurwa added that she will seek to capacitate people in Harare East so that they can team up with her to bring change in their area.

She said she cannot do it alone and the people cannot do it alone, but they need each other.

‘’I am promising a responsive governance system at that local level. If I say responsive, I am saying I cannot promise people fireworks, that will be lying.

‘’But I will promise people that during my time many will be capacitated to positively respond to issue that concern them, that means together we will be able to change our environment.

‘’I cannot do it alone, they cannot do it alone but together we can,’’ she said.

LEAD is one of the few political parties that are fronted by a woman in Zimbabwe. The party is led by outspoken and self-styled politician Linda Masarira, who is contesting for the Harare Central Constituency seat.
