ZEC: Our server has no election results, we don’t transmit results electronically

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) says contrary to what many people believe, there are no election results on its servers.

During the 2018 general elections, there was talk that ZEC servers contained election results that reflected Nelson Chamisa’s victory.

This also saw Morgan Komichi addressing the media at the election results centre in 2018 that the results which were being announced were fake.

Some people even claimed that ZEC deliberately ignored its servers and opted to use excel in compiling election results.

However, speaking during a social media workshop recently, ZEC spokesperson Jasper Mangwana said the servers do not have election elections.

He said the source of election results is the physical V11 form and not the server.

‘’The whole election starts and ends with the V11. We hear you talk about ZEC having a server, and its location or whereabouts. ZEC servers do not have results of elections our element is the source of information.

‘’Where is the source of the information? It’s the V11 form which is a form that is compiled at the polling station. That is the form that is used in collating the results, as ZEC we don’t transmit things electronically.

‘’We take them (V11 forms), get into the car and drive to the ward collation centre with it, they look at it and verify then they add, and they take it again to the constituency centre,’’ he said.

ZEC is currently engaged in a social media war with Team Pachedu over various claims that the organisation has made over the credibility of elections processes.

One of the claims from Team Pachedu is that the ZEC server is housed at Africom which is owned by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.

Team Pachedu has also claimed that ZEC has been transferring voters secretly and that there were other people who were on the voters roll who do not have home addresses.

Although ZEC has dismissed the other claims, it, however, conceded on the issue of home addresses.

ZEC in its defence, the people who do not have addresses are those staying in police camps and military bases.
