Transform Zimbabwe: We would rather wait for 2023 elections #ElectionsZW

Transform Zimbabwe says it will not be taking part in the impending by-elections arguing that they are waste of time and resources.

The Jacob Ngarivhume led political parties revealed that it is focusing its resources and energy on the 2023 general elections.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently proclaimed by-elections which are set for the 26th of March this year.

Asked whether the party will field candidates in the by-elections, Transform Zimbabwe presidential spokesperson Justice Makota said they will not waste resources.

‘’As Transform Zimbabwe we are not taking part. Firstly, we are focusing on 2023 and we are putting our energies and resources into that.

‘’Secondly, we want to see the de-militarisation of ZEC (Zimbabwe Electoral Commission) among other reforms. And we are going to push ED’s (Emmerson Mnangagwa) government to task.

‘’As much as these by-elections are a constitutional right, but it’s a mere waste of resources. Zanu PF is playing games with people why now is the biggest question,’’ he said.

Transform Zimbabwe ready to back Chamisa in by-elections

Asked if Transform Zimbabwe will back other opposition parties that will take part in the by-elections, Makota said they are open to supporting progressive parties.

‘’We believe in pulling together. Unity is key to success. We are very comfortable working with progressive and patriotic opposition parties like MDC led by (Nelson) Chamisa,’’ he said.

Transform Zimbabwe is one of the political parties that composed the MDC Alliance electoral pact that was formed to contest the 2018 general elections.

Although the party pulled out of the alliance after the election citing broken promises, it has however remained close with the Chamisa-led MDC Alliance.

It is not clear if they will moot another alliance ahead of the 2023 general elections. MDC Alliance is yet to give its position with regards to contesting the by-elections. However, there are rumours circulating that they might boycott the polls.
