Son of Zanu PF bigwigs Christopher and Monica Mutsvangwa, Neville Mutsvangwa has finally been granted bail by High Court Judge Justice Rodgers Manyangadze after spending nearly a month in Remand Prison.
High Court Judge Justice Rodgers Manyangadze granted Neville, Ellis Majachani, and Simbarase Tichingana bail, setting it at US$1,000 each. They must report to the police twice a week.
Additionally, they must surrender their passports, refrain from interfering with witnesses, and remain at their given addresses until their case concludes.
Justice Manyangadze stated that “the State failed to provide strong reasons justifying the applicants’ incarceration.”
Josephine Sande, Neville’s lawyer, found it challenging to secure bail for her client.
“After nearly a month of stress and running around, we are relieved that Neville has finally been granted bail,” said Sande after the ruling.
Neville’s bail appeal hearing faced delays when Judge Esther Muremba, who initially presided, recused herself.
Muremba withdrew from the case following a meeting with a displeased Monica at the State House, reportedly accompanied by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Neville faces four criminal charges, including dealing in foreign currency, money laundering, and violating the Telecommunications Act.
He and his suspected accomplices were arrested after detectives broke into his residence, where he had barricaded himself.
Tichingana was apprehended when he visited Neville’s home under the pretext of being a concerned neighbor.
Majachani was caught at Mumba Money, a company owned by Neville.
