Constitutional Amendment Bill No3 (CAB3) has passed after the National Assembly voted 216 to 42 in favour of the controversial Bill.
Two thirds were needed by the ruling ZANU PF to proceed with it.
However, despite lacking the requisite numbers on Thursday, support from some opposition MPs meant that the Bill got 216 which is way above the required 187 votes.
Only 42 opposition MPs voted against the Bill despite the opposition currently holding 86 seats in the National Assembly.
ZANU PF has a total of 194 seats.
Of those, all 181 who were present in Parliament voted for the Bill.
This means 35 opposition MPs voted in support of CAB3 on Thursday.
The astonishing numbers of opposition MPs who supported the Bill adds a new dimension in understanding the Sengezo Tshabangu angle.
Tshabangu emerged as CCC Secretary General under acrimonious condition and proceeded to recall hundreds of opposition members from both Parliament Local Authorities.
The initiative resulted in the steady creation of an opposition party that was strangely eager to cooperate and support the ruling party.
On Thursday many of those who have been seen as Tshabangu MPs voted in support of CAB3.
Those who voted against the Bill include Joannah Mamombe, Agency Gumbo, Charlton Hwende, Leslie James, Donald Mavhudzi, Richard Tsvangirai, Lovejoy Sibanda, Innocent Zvaipa and Godfrey Sithole.
