MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora says he will not seek a retributive agenda against some of his competitors from the just-ended extraordinary congress.

The revelation by Mwonzora put to rest speculation that he might recall the party’s vice president Thokozani Khupe from Parliament after a fierce battle at the congress.

Khupe who was acting president, tried to stop the congress midway alleging that Mwonzora had rigged the voters roll.

She even took it further to announce that she had suspended Mwonzora from the post of secretary-general.

However, addressing a press conference at Harvest House, Mwonzora said he believes the statement was made out of anger, but he will not take action.

“I have no intention of victimising anyone, I have no intention of recalling anybody unless people want to be recalled but it’s not in our nature to be retributive.

“I know that there were a lot of things that were said but it was a result of anger, it was a result of frustration and this comes with competition.

“I think that I must be a very frustrating opponent and I do understand my opponents when they get frustrated with me but that is to be expected,” he said.

Mwonzora who polled 883 against poor performing Elias Mudzuri, Morgen Komichi and Khupe, said he expected people to get angry and then cool down.

The lawyer-cum politician said he is hoping that Khupe will cool down and come back to the party.

“I expected people to get angry but I also expect people to get over it and so we had to allow a period of cooling for the Madam vice president in particular.

“I know she will cool down and I know she will come back and assume her responsibilities,” he said.

It remains to be seen whether Khupe will accept to come back to the party, as she told the media that she was approaching the courts and that she was still in charge of the party.
