The eighth edition of the Hub Unconference, which takes place in conjunction with Shoko Festival will this year introduce the Open Data Africa Summit.

The Hub Unconference is Zimbabwe’s leading digital media, civic tech & journalism conference.

Shoko Festival will run under the theme #PARTYcipate from 27 September to 1 October 2022.

This year’s festival takes on a hybrid style which will roll out both online and physical activities.

Scheduled for 30 September 2022 the Open Data Africa Summit aims to address the ease of acquiring data from parliaments and challenges encountered in African countries.

However, Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) ranked Parliament Of Zimbabwe as the most transparent public institution.

The ranking is in the State Of The Media Report 2021; however, activists from the continent will compare their experience to Zimbabwe.

Festival director Samm Farai Monro expressed his happiness at hosting The Hub Unconference in person after a two-year hiatus.

“We’re thrilled to be able to have the Hub Unconference happen physically this year after two years of doing it virtually due to the pandemic and global lockdowns,” Monro said.

Again, Monro promised a line of speakers from the continent focusing on wide array of issues.

“We have amazing speakers from across the continent and some really inspirational ideas that are gonna be presented on everything from open data to climate justice. So, swing through The Hub Unconference and get inspired,” he added.

Delegates will come from Somalia, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Zambia and Uganda to share their experiences.

Also scheduled for The Hub Unconference is; the Mayors’ Forum, the Annual State of the Internet Address, the Women Create Worlds Summit, and the Africa Satire Convention.
