#ElectionsZW: Zalerah Makari expecting a landslide victory in Epworth
Zanu PF candidate for Epworth Constituency in the 26 March by-elections Zalerah Makari says she expects nothing short of a landslide victory in the polls.
Makari is a former legislator for the constituency (2015 to 2018).
She is going to battle with another former legislator Eathrage Kureva (Citizens Coalition for Change), Richard Musiyadzaanikwa (LEAD), Innocent Hazvina (Independent), and Zivai Togarepi Mhetu (MDC Alliance).
Kureva was recalled by MDC-T due to factional fights over the late Morgan Tsvangirai’s successor.
In an interview, Makari said her confidence emanates from the work that Zanu PF has done and continues to do in Epworth.
She said she also wants to finish what she started during her previous tenure in Parliament.
‘’I am the aspiring Member of Parliament for Epworth Constituency, representing the ruling party Zanu PF. We are expecting victory, nothing but a landslide victory, because we have worked, and we are still working in the constituency.
‘’I was once the MP for the constituency from 2015 to 2018 and so you can say I am coming back to finish what we started,’’ she said.
Speaking at the nomination court at Harare Magistrates Court, recently Kureva also expressed confidence arguing that people are going to retain him so that he can finish what he started.
In Epworth, Kureva was recalled together with some councillors for openly backing Nelson Chamisa in the MDC factional fight.
Besides Epworth, there are various other constituencies that were declared vacant for the same reasons in both Zanu PF and MDC.
Other seats also became vacant following the death of the officeholders from various diseases that range from heart failure, cancer, and COVID-19 among others.
The by-elections are being after about two years of waiting following the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic forced the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to suspend all electoral-related purposes in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.
