Human rights defenders Robson Chere, Namatai Kwekweza, and Samuel Gwenzi remain committed to activism despite spending over a month in jail.
The trio was granted bail by High Court judge Justice Benjamin Chikowero after three attempts.
Prosecutors accused them of demonstrating against the continued detention of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activists and leader Jameson Timba.
Following their release from Chikurubi Maximum Prison, the activists vowed to continue fighting for human rights despite their physical absence.
“It’s a relief to go home after 36 days. We are excited to keep fighting,” said Kwekweza.
She emphasized that their case reflects a broader issue, as many remain unjustly imprisoned across the country.
Chere, who was tortured after being dragged off a plane at Robert Mugabe International Airport, said, “I still feel pain, especially in my chest. Further medical exams are needed.”
Despite the ordeal, Chere remains mentally unshaken. “My body was detained, but my consciousness remains clear,” he declared.
Gwenzi expressed gratitude to the court, saying, “I’m relieved after spending so much time in prison. We won’t stop fighting for a democratic Zimbabwe.”
He further criticized the government, stating, “It’s time for civil society to outthink the authoritarian regime.”
The three now await trial.
