ZEC to counter Team Pachedu: We will not issue voters roll on CDs again #ElectionsZW
Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) spokesperson Commissioner Jasper Mangwana says his commission is doing away with issuing copies of the voters roll to stakeholders on CDs.
The commission has in the past issued the voters roll to election stakeholders so that they can analyse it.
However, the new move is likely to be seen by commentators as a step towards countering Team Pachedu which has been analysing the voters roll and has raised a lot of issues.
ZEC has however dismissed most of the issues and knowledge of the voters roll being used by Team Pachedu in its analysis.
According to ZEC, the move is to help protect people’s personal data from being splashed on social media.
Instead of the voters roll on CDs, ZEC will be creating an interactive online portal where people will access the voters roll and analyse it from there.
According to Commissioner Mangwana, the portal will be monitored by ZEC and will only issue One Time Pin (OPT) to local numbers.
‘’In the future, we are not going to issue the voters roll on CDs to candidates and stakeholders. We are going to create an online portal that is searchable because the voters roll is supposed to be searchable, and this portal can be monitored by ZEC you will be issued with log in details to access it and the portal will send an OTP to a local number only,’’ he said.
ZEC and Team Pachedu are currently involved in a war of words over the issue of a server. Team Pachedu says ZEC’s server is being hosted by Africom which is one of the companies owned by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.
However, ZEC is on record disputing the fact. According to Mangwana their server is not hosted by Africom and is not in a location that was alleged by Team Pachedu.
Mangwana said he could not reveal the location of the ZEC server for security reasons.
