Zanu PF threatens to use police against Chamisa

Zanu PF national spokesperson Simon Khaya-Moyo has threatened to use the police to thwart any action that will be taken by MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa.

Chamisa gave an address dubbed Zimbabwe Agenda 2021 where he said his party is readying to fight and oppose the culture of tyrannical system.

However, the address by Chamisa has not gone down well with Zanu PF, leading to the issuing of the statement.

In the statement, Khaya-Moyo said the MDC Alliance leader is threatening violent demonstration and therefore they will engage the police.

“Mr Chamisa did not only fail to demonstrate leadership but failed to instill hope in his fractured party. Instead rumbling about seeking to establish pockets of resistance across the country, similar to the ill-fated 31 July 2020 attempted violent demonstrations, whose sole attempt was to destabilise the country.

“While Zanu PF has the capacity to thwart such machinations, but as a law abiding organisation, we rest the matter with the law enforcement agencies.

“The people of Zimbabwe have had enough of this childish rambling from a party clearly running short of oxygen,” he said.

The Zanu PF spokesperson also took the opportunity dismiss claims that that the ruling party was trying to destroy MDC Alliance ahead of the 2023 elections.

Khaya-Moyo said such an agenda does not exist at Zanu PF, adding that the ruling party welcomes competition.

“Zanu PF and its leadership have no agenda whatsoever to decimate any opposition political party.

“We cherish democracy as born out of a protracted liberation struggle which freed our people from the shackles of colonialism and settler regime, winning freedom and independence in 1980,” he said.

Contrary to Khaya-Moyo’s claims that Zanu PF is not intending to destroy opposition parties, Zanu PF director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi is on record saying the party wants a one-party state.
