President Mnangagwa has signed into law constitutional amendments to extend his term by 2 years until 2030.
The news was announced through a Government Gazette today.
The amendments, contained in the controversial Constitutional Amendment Bill No3 (CAB3), will effectualise a raft of controversial changes.

Famously known as CAB3, the amendments replace direct presidential elections in favour of a vote by parliament.
They effectively defer Mnangagwa’s stepping down from office from the original 2028 to 2030.
The law has faced widespread resistance with critics arguing that it’s a reversal of gains attained through the 2013 Constitution.
The 2013 Constitution laid out presidential term limits as direct response to former President Robert Mugabe’s 37 years in power.
The law also transfers voter registration to the Registrar-General, establishes a Delimitation Commission, restructures the judiciary among other constitutional changes.
Despite massive public outcry it has received enormous support from Parliamentarians in both the National Assembly and Senate.
