Mohadi’s daughter appointment: CCC blames Mwonzora and others

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators in the National Assembly have distanced themselves from the appointment of Kembo Mohadi’s daughter to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Abigail Millicent Mohadi-Ambrose is one of the six newly appointed ZEC Commissioners.

The others are Cathrine Mpofu, Jane Mbetu Nzvenga, Kudzai Shava, Rosewita Murutare, and Shepherd Manhivi.

However, it is the inclusion of Kembo Mohadi’s daughter which has not gone down well with Zimbabweans who are of the view that it is a conflict of interest.

This saw some taking to Twitter to blame CCC legislators for sleeping on duty.

However, the CCC legislators distanced themselves from the appointment, arguing that it is Douglas Mwonzora’s camp that was part of the decision-making exercise.

Writing on his Twitter handle, Marondera Central legislator Caston Matewu said CCC legislators do not sit on the committee that is responsible.

‘’These interviews are done by the Committee on Standing Rules, as CCC we have no MP on this committee and hence no influence.

‘’We do not have enough MPs for a seat on that Committee. Absolutely no way would we have voted for her,’’ he said.

Honourable Matewu added that when the committee sat for the interviews, Parliament was on break, but promised they would take action.

‘’Just to add, Parliament has been in recess for the past two years weeks. This was all done while we are far away from Parliament.

‘’When we re-open on Tuesday, surely, we are going to raise this in Parliament and consult our lawyers on the best way of challenging this partisan appointment,’’ he said.

Speaking on the same issue, Nkulumane legislator Kucaca Phulu said CCC was also critical of the appointments.

‘’CCC Zimbabwe MPs are not members of the committee in question. We are equally critical of the appointment.

‘’The shortlist does not come to the house but goes to (Emmerson) Mnangagwa. I am sure you are well informed about the composition of the panel.

‘’The process began while we were recalled and did not come to the house, the committee submits its shortlist to the President,’’ he said.
