Outspoken politician Linda Masarira has outlined about five things that she thinks President Emmerson Mnangagwa has done well since coming into office.
Mnangagwa came into office in November 2017 following Operation Restore Legacy which was fronted by the military.
However, there have been debate in the country on whether or not Mnangagwa who took over from Robert Mugabe has done anything well.
There is currently no conclusive view on the debate as most points are being informed by party affiliation than open minds.
Magamba TV through its show Take Down which is hosted by Q Dube, asked Masarira who fronts the Labour Economists and African Democrats (LEAD) to give her views.
Below are her views on what Mnangagwa has done well:
1 He (Mnangagwa) has allowed political actors to dialogue and he has allowed multi-party democracy to exist
2 He has supported agriculture which was very important and critical especially at the juncture we where at economically
3 I think he is trying to support small scale miners to be able to mine. I think since the second dispensation came to power we haven’t gotten news of makorokoza (small scale miners) being beaten and evicted except that time we started having Mashurugwi (machete gangs) which I still think was politically motivated
4 I think he has also tried to depolarise Zanu PF from within. We no longer see the level of violence that we used to see during the (Robert) Mugabe regime. I remember during the Mugabe regime you could not just speak the word, Mugabe. You had to have balls of steel to utter the word Mugabe because there were always guys looking and hanging whether its at shops or anywhere but we have seen a laxity in violence. People can now speak openly about what is happening in our country
5 I think he is trying to curb corruption though the factionalism aspect within Zanu PF seems to be the hindering factor for corruption to be curbed from within Zanu PF and government. Those are five things I have been observing from HE which I think he has done well.-
