#ElectionsZW: We don’t need by-elections to test our strength says Tsenengamu
Front for Economic Emancipation in Zimbabwe (FEEZ) leader Godfrey Tsenengamu says his party does not need the impending by-elections to test its strength.
The former Zanu PF Youth League political commissar said they already know the power they have and will expose their weaknesses to Zanu PF.
Zimbabwe is set to hold by-elections on the 26th of March this year to replace legislators and councillors who were recalled and those that died since 2018.
A lot of new political parties and even those that are seasoned, are using the by-elections to gauge their strength ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Answering questions on Facebook from people who wanted to know whether his party will use the polls to test the waters, Tsenengamu said their eyes are in 2023.
‘’We already know our strength my dear brother as that doesn’t require a by-election. We know how strong Zanu PF is and we are working on that. We are five months old and building our movement.
‘’We are focusing on 2023. We can’t expose our strengths and weaknesses to Zanu PF so that they counter us ahead of 2023. Our eyes are on 2023,’’ he said.
We are building a strong political institution
According to Tsenengamu ‘’We are building a strong political institution that will outlive Godfrey Tsenengamu because leaders come and go but institutions last. We follow the cause SOCIALIST cause more than individuals!
‘’We didn’t field a single candidate. We are not obsessed with the politics of power requisition, accumulation, or retention.
‘’There was no point in us diverting our focus and energies on by-elections when general elections are around the corner.
‘’The by-elections in our view are a waste of time and resources considering the time left before the next general polls,’’ he said.
FEEZ is not the only party that is waiting for 2023. Transform Zimbabwe which is led by Jacob Ngarivhume also indicated that by-elections are an unnecessary sideshow.
