#ElectionsZW: National Patriotic Front (NPF) targets 8 constituencies in Harare

New Patriotic Front (NPF) leader Tendai Munyanduri has revealed that his party is targeting to contest for 8 vacant seats in the upcoming by-election.

The 8 seats are all in Harare and Munyanduri says there are high chances of winning because they have campaigned in the constituencies since 2018.

Munyanduri who contested and lost in the 2018 Presidential election is on record indicating that his party was campaigning at funerals and weddings.

He was also seen campaigning at bank queues on several occasions.

In an interview, the self-styled engineer said his party’s message is very powerful and gives him confidence for victory.

‘’We intend to fill MPs for Highfield West, Glenview North, Kwekwe Central, Glen Norah, Harare Central, Kuwadzana East, Highfield East, and Mufakose.

‘’The chances are very high because we have campaigned in these constituencies since 2018. Our message to Zimbabweans is very, very powerful,’’ he said.

Munyanduri who comes from Kadoma is popular for promising the electorate eggs, milk, and bacon every day if they vote him to power.

Although there are claims that he was once admitted into a health facility for mental health, Munyanduri is a member of the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) platform where they often meet with President Emmerson Mnangagwa to discuss electoral reforms.

The by-elections for the 28 vacant Parliamentary seats will be held on the 26th of March this year with the nomination court set for the end of January.

Munyanduri submitted reform proposals to POLAD

In terms of the topical issue of electoral reforms, Munyanduri says he has made his proposals to POLAD, Zanu PF, and MDC.

He said he is not sure if they will consider them. Munyanduri also wants ZEC to bring election stakeholders together so that they can talk about the dos and don’ts of elections.

‘’I have made my input to POLAD, Zanu PF, and MDC on my proposed electoral and constitutional reforms. I do not know whether they will be favourably considered.

‘’ZEC should ensure that all stakeholders or organizations that can affect the campaigning atmosphere like soldiers, police, CIOs, army, political parties, religious organizations, and traditional leaders are brought to the same table in order to talk about the electoral do’s and don’ts,’’ he said.
