#ElectionsZW: I decided to contest because men didn’t bring development in Kambuzuma says Fungai Gumbo

MDC Alliance candidate for Harare Ward 14 council by-election Fungai Gumbo said she decided to contest in elections because men have failed to bring development in Kambuzuma.

Gumbo said as a woman she understands issues of development better than males.

In an interview, Gumbo said ‘’There are some things that I observed. In Kambuzuma women we have been hesitating to stand up to contest preferring to leave it for the males, but you could see that the males have not brought any development in Kambuzuma.

‘’Things were not changing. That is what gave me the drive that as a woman, no matter how hard it is, let me try to contest because I have a motherly heart. I have an understanding heart and I know what needs to be fixed,’’ she said.

According to Gumbo, women make better candidates because they are not intimidating to approach as compared to males.

‘’I am not intimidating; I can be easily approached, unlike males. It’s intimidating to approach males because you don’t know how they will respond or what you will encounter.

‘’Remember others are married the wives might read it wrongly whether you came for service delivery or for something else, but I am such a person that welcomes everyone 24/7.

‘’People can bring their grievances and concerns as residents that is why I chose to stand so that I can change what needs to be changed.

‘’I know I will not be good in everything but there are certain things as women that we can do differently to uplift Kambuzuma,’’ she said. According to Gumbo if she gets elected, she will endeavour to ensure opportunities for all in Kambuzuma.
