Chamisa’s MPs finally allocated portfolio committees
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators who won in the March 27 by-elections have finally been allocated portfolio committees to serve in.
Legislators are required to belong to at least two Portfolio Committees by the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders (SRO) of Parliament.
Section 18 of the National Assembly Standing Orders and Rules provides for the appointing of legislators to Portfolio Committees
The Committee on SRO is tasked with determining the number of and nominating the members who must serve on committees and such appointments must consider the expressed interest or expertise of the members.
Making the announcement, Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda said ‘’I have the rest of suggested Honourable Members into various Committees. When the list was drawn, I think there was a lapse of memory that Honourable Members only serve in two Committees and not more than two Committees so that you commit yourself.
‘’That is the decision of the Committee on Standing Rules and Orders. The reason is that you have time to commit yourself to your committee work rather than flip-flopping from one Committee to the other, then to the other and to the other. Use that energy elsewhere,’’ he said.
Below is the list of 19 Citizens Coalition for Change legislators and their chosen committees.
