Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator for Chitungwiza North Godfrey Sithole was released from pretrial imprisonment after a period 149 days.
Last Wednesday, Sithole was freed after Harare Magistrate Marevanazvo Gofa approved a ZW$300,000 bail while his co-accused remained in custody.
For inciting unrest, Sithole was detained on June 14, 2022, along with CCC politician Job Sikhala and 15 other Nyatsime citizens.
The release comes after the courts repeatedly rejected petition for freedom.
Human rights advocates highlighted their anger with the 17’s continuous confinement while they were in jail because they were awaiting trial.
Breaking the news on the Twitter handle CCC twitter, “Hon Godfrey Sithole has finally been granted bail after spending 149 days in prison without trial.
“In a new Zimbabwe, a person is innocent until proven guilty not vice versa like what we’re currently experiencing under Mr Mnangagwa’s regime.”
Part of the bail conditions include to report to ST Mary’s Police Station twice a week, not to interfere with witnesses and to surrender his passport.
