Blow for women as Court dismiss Linda Masarira’s application #ElectionsZW

By Daniel Chigundu

Women in Zimbabwe have been dealt another blow following the decision of the Electoral Court to throw away an application by Linda Masarira

Masarira who fronts the Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) had intended to contest for President in the 2023 General elections.

However, she failed to pay the US$20 000 nomination fees in RTGS due to bank limits issues. This meant that she was not able to submit her nomination papers

The outspoken politician was not happy and decided to take the matters to court to challenge.

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) opposed Masarira’s application arguing that it lacked merit.

This has resulted in the court dismissing the application.

In a statement after the court judgement, Masarira said the wayforward will only be determined after reading the full judgement.

“My application was dismissed with costs. The judge only read the operational part of the judgement.

“We will only get to know the reasons when we get a copy of the full judgement. The way forward will be determined after reading the full judgement,” she said.
