Legislators have called on the finance minister to consider disbursing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) timeously and to increase the allocations.
CDF is a fund that was created to help legislators spearhead development in their constituencies.
The fund was started during the time of the Inclusive Government and is only given to the 210 constituency based legislators.
Reading the Portfolio Committee on Budget and Finance recommendation on the 2020 National Budget, committee Chair Felix Mhona said while they appreciate the current allocations, there is a need to do more
“The Committee welcomes the allocation towards the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) of ZWL$420 million which translates to $2 million (US$ 24 691) per constituency.
“The Committee however recommends timeous disbursements and a review of the allocation to an equivalent of US$50000 per constituency if it is to make meaningful impact,” he said.
While CDF plays an important role in bringing development, most legislators are yet to access the funding due to lack of bankable projects.
During the period between 2010 and 2013, most legislators were accused of abusing the funds after failing to account how they had used the funds.
