Activist Allan Moyo who has spent more than two months in remand prison has been granted ZW$10 000 bail.
Writing on its Twitter handle, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) said, “We have secured the release from prison of Allan Moyo on RTGS$10 000 bail after he spent more than 2 months in jail.
“We thank our lawyer Obey Shava for investing his energy against all odd to fight for Allan’s freedom.
The University of Zimbabwe student is among a long list of human rights activists and defenders that have been arrested since the coming in of President Emmerson Mnangagwa in November 2017.
Among those that have been arrested are lawyers like Thabani Mpofu, Obey Shava, Jeremiah Bhamu, Job Sikhala among others.
Seasoned lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa was once barred from representing her client Hopewell Chin’ono.
These arrests are viewed to be similar to those that used to happen under the Robert Mugabe regime.
This has seen some questioning the sincerity of the new dispensation pledge to observe human rights.
Human rights are very topical issue in Zimbabwe, with the government being deemed as the main perpetrator.
Violation of human rights has also seen the country being placed under targeted sanctions by the European Union and the United States.
Moyo’s freedom however, comes just days after the arrest of another pro-democracy activist makomborero Haruzivishe.
Mako as he is affectionately known is facing charges that range from locking Impala employees inside their offices and violating of COVID-19 regulations among other.
At the time of publishing, Mako was currently at Rotten Row Magistrates Court for initial remand hearing.
In previous interviews, Mako has said he is worried about being arrested, adding that prison has served to harden his resolve.
