President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to announce the legislative agenda for the Second Session of the 10th Parliament of Zimbabwe.

According to Section 140(4), At least once a year, the President must address a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament on the State of the Nation (SONA).

The SONA coincides with the Official Opening of Parliament where the President normally sets the agenda for the upcoming session.

Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda confirmed the development through General Notice 1527 of 2024

‘’It is hereby notified, for public information, that His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Honourable Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa will-(a) in terms of Section 140(1) of the Constitution address a joint sitting of the Senate and the National Assembly on Wednesday, the 2nd of October 2024 at 14:00 hours, during which he will set out the Government’s legislative agenda for the Second Session of the Tenth Parliament; and (b) in terms of Section 140(4) of the Constitution, deliver the State of the Nation Address,’’ he said.

The setting of the legislative agenda means that all issues of the Parliament Order Papers would have lapsed. However, they can still be restored to the Order Paper through motions.

There are several bills under debate in Parliament including the Private Voluntary Organisations Amendment Bill (PVO Bill).

A Parliament term (5 years) has 5 sessions and each session is one-year long
