Violence Will Not Deter CCC From Participating In 2023 Elections, Says Mahere
Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere has declared that has asserted that despite party members being the targets of violence and intimidation, the CCC will continue to contest in the 2023 elections.
As the 2023 elections approach, the political climate is worsening due to increased tension.
Unfortunately, members of the opposition have been at the receiving end of violence.
The most recent spate of violence being perpetrated by alleged Zanu PF members in Matebeleland South, left CCC members including Proportional Representation legislator for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Jasmine Toffa injured.
The injuries led to the hospitalization of a Bulawayo legislator.
Press Conference
Speaking at a press conference in Harare last Tuesday the CCC spokesperson was adamant that nothing would deter the party from participating in the 2023 plebiscite.
“We have seen that ZanuPF is trying to do everything it can to stop us from participating, that won’t happen.
“A boycott is simply off the cards no matter how much violence, no matter how intimidation you use. We are going to look you in the eye.
“We are going to use the support of the people that we have and we are going to keep marching forward in our fight to win Zimbabwe for change,” Mahere said.
Mahere expressed these sentiments after alleged Zanu PF youths had stormed in the press conference venue at the media centre and stripped down the party banners and left with them.
The youths went on to lock the main entrance of the media centre leaving members of the media and CCC officials using the back door.
However, Mahere was disappointed because the police did not take appropriate action.
“I think what is even more disappointing is that we have got the Zimbabwe Republic Police stationed outside, they are armed and in their right gear.
“They have also come to the venue and yet they were unable to stop the ZanuPF thugs,” Mahare added.
Police have been blamed by opposition political parties and Civil Society Organisations for the Zanu PF bias and failure to bring to book perpetrators of violence.
In September, the Zimbabwe Peace Project accused the ZRP of turning a blind eye to Zanu PF when they were involved in politically motivated violence.
