Parliament of Zimbabwe is intending to acquire about 362 tablets as part of its paperless strategy that took shape in the 9th Parliament when it bought about 350 Samsung tablets.

The tablets are mainly used by legislators to receive Order Papers, to participate in sittings virtually and also for other communication from Parliament.

Parliament currently has 360 legislators (270 National Assembly and 80 Senators) following the addition of the 10 seats under the youth quota which was introduced through Constitution Amendment no.2.

There are also two Presiding officers, the Speaker of the National Assembly (Jacob Mudenda) and the President of the Senate (Mabel Chinomona) to make the number 362.

The Procurement Reference Number for the tender is POZ/DOM/ICT/001/2023.

According to the tender, ‘’Bids should be priced in US dollars. The currency of evaluation will be USD. Payment will be done in ZW$ converted at the prevailing interbank rate on the date of payment

‘’The lowest evaluated bid, after application of any additional evaluation criteria, including any margin of preference, which is substantially responsive to the requirements of this bidding document will be recommended for award of contract.

‘’The proposed award of contract will be by issue of a Notification of Contract Award in terms of Section 55 of the Act, which will be effective until signature of the

contract documents.

‘’Unsuccessful Bidders will receive the Notification of Contract Award and, if they consider they have suffered prejudice from the process, they may within 14 days of receiving this Notification, submit to the Procuring Entity a Challenge in terms of section 73 of the Act, subject to payment of the applicable fee set out in Section 44 and the Third Schedule to the Regulations.’’

Tablets were critical during the Covid-19 period as they helped Parliament of Zimbabwe to continue meeting, despite the lockdowns and regulations that limited gatherings.
