The prominent son of Zanu PF bigwigs Christopher and Monica Mutsvangwa, Neville Mutsvangwa, will further languish in Remand Prison after a delayed bail ruling until next Monday.
High court judge, Justice Esther Muremba was forced to postpone the matter after the transcribed record of proceedings from the lower court was found missing in the docket.
His lawyers insisted that they had filed the correct papers, but they could not access the Integrated Electronic Case Management System (IECMS) and thus failed to argue their case.
Mabel Tarugarira, representing Neville, said they wanted the bail hearing to finalized quickly for the benefit of their client, but the internet system failed them.
“Unfortunately, the judge did not deliver her judgement, the reason was that she didn’t see the corrected record of proceedings from Rotten-Row court, but we insisted as lawyers that we had filed the correct record.
“It was unfortunate that during the session we could not prove because we had no access to the IECMS so the ruling was postponed to Monday.
“Dissatisfied with the proceedings that happened in court, we had to go back to the IECMS to check whether we did not file the correct record. Fortunately, we discovered that the correct record was in court. We had to seek audience with the judge and then clarify the matter.
“As we speak the matter has been clarified,” she said, adding that this was overtaken by events because the court had already postponed the matter.
The judge will now have to go through the record before she hands her judgement on Monday.
Criminal Charges
Neville is facing four criminal offences including two cases of dealing in foreign currency, money laundering and contravening the Telecommunications Act.
He is jointly charged with Simbarashe Tichingana and Ellis Majachani who are also represented by the same lawyers.
Neville and suspected accomplices were arrested last Wednesday after detectives broke into his residence where he had locked himself in.
Tichingana was nabbed after he went to Neville’s home on pretext that he was a concerned neighbour.
Majachani was caught at Mumba Money, a company owned by Neville.
