Maggie Magirazi: Kirsty Coventry has been a huge disappointment

Seasoned Bustop TV actor and comedian Sharon Chideu who is popularly known as “Maggie Magirazi’’ says the Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Kirsty Coventry has been a monumental failure in so far as the arts sector is concerned.

Kirsty who made a name through swimming was roped into the cabinet by Emmerson Mnangagwa as one of the five technocrats.

However, her performance in the youth and arts portfolios have failed to please many people in the country.

Speaking during an interview on Women Creative Wednesday, Maggie said she had a lot of expectations from Minister Coventry. However, she says expectations have turned to disappointments.

‘’I would give Minister Kirsty Coventry a zero out of hundred in terms of the art portfolio of her Ministry. I mean what has she done; can she tell us what she has done? It is a minus comrade. It is so disappointing because when we heard that Kirsty is going to be the minister, we thought at least something is going to happen for us in the arts sector but no, nothing, hapana,’’ she said.

Return of National Youth Service

Asked on her thoughts about the National Youth Service that is being revived, Maggie said she will not attend.

She said the National Youth Service revival is a horror shock to her owing to previous stories that are associated with it.

‘’I will also not go for the National Youth Service, it is a horror shocker, I will not go. I will not encourage you to not go, but I will not go,” she said.

The National Youth Service was introduced during the time of the late Border Gezi. They were mostly used to intimidate people during the elections.

Youths from the training were mostly found at Zanu PF functions and meetings. This led to people branding it a Zanu PF terror project.

Female President

Asked on whether she thinks Zimbabwe is now ready for a female President, Maggie concurred adding that there were a lot of strong women in the country who are up to the task.

‘’Why not? We have very strong females in the country so why not. The females are able. After all women control a lot of things and are already leaders even though they make men believe they are the ones in control.

‘’Females we are the leaders, and we are also the majority in the country,’’ she said
