#ElectionsZW: My focus is on creating jobs says Chidziva

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate for Highfield West by-elections Happymore Chidziva says his major focus in Parliament will be dealing with unemployment.

Unemployment is currently at its highest in Zimbabwe since independence.

The most affected are young people who end up abusing drugs as a way of dealing with stress.

Efforts by the current government to come up with programs to reduce drug abuse have not yielded much result.

However, the former MDC Alliance youth leader is of the view that ending unemployment will greatly reduce drug abuse.

In an interview, Chidziva said ‘’One of the issues that will be on top of my legislative agenda is the issue of young people. The community that I come from Highfield West is a very poor community where so many young people are unemployed, and their only way of life is finding something that can distress them.

‘’Our push as CCC is to deal with issues of how to create employment and legislate against issues of drug abuse but this issue the only solution is around employment creation, creation of opportunities for young people such that we try to minimise this issue of drugs among young people,’’ he said.

Chidziva was the legislator for the constituency before he was recalled by the MDC-T which is led by Douglas Mwonzora.

According to Mwonzora, Chidziva and other legislators who were recalled had sworn through an affidavit indicating that they no longer belonged to the MDC-T.

Currently, there are about 28 National Assembly seats that are vacant and will be filled through the by-election on March 26.

The by-elections are coming at a time when there are new developments in the opposition corner where Nelson Chamisa dumped the MDC tag and launched a new party.

Citizens Coalition for Change although composed of seasoned opposition politicians is participating in its first elections. Political commentators are also of the view that the by-elections will help solve the issue of who has supporters between Douglas Mwonzora and Nelson Chamisa.
