MDC-T 2nd Vice President Elias Mudzuri says he will not seek reelection at Congress until there is democracy a d transparency in the process.
Mudzuri joins a growing list of Mwonzora’s allies who have become disgruntled by the lack of democracy in the party.
Last week Vincent Tsvangirai told OpenParly that he will not contest for MP in the 2023 generation elections if Mwonzora is still the MDC-T leader.
Mwonzora who came to power through a controversial Congress was controversially endorsed as party leader ahead of Congress and technically the Presidential candidate for 2023.
Insiders say things are not well for Mwonzora, and there could be a mass exodus.
Writing on his Twitter, Elias Mudzuri noted calls from party supporters urging him to seek re-election but said he would rather be an ordinary card-carrying member.
“Thank you to all members of the MDC family who have expressed their wish that I stand for re-election as 2nd Vice President of the Party at the coming 5th Congress. I will not submit myself for that election for any position. I will however remain a committed card-carrying member.
“I am not in agreement with the process so I stand conflicted to stand for any position until and unless the process becomes transparent and democratic including knowledge of the colligate from ward to province, ” he said.
Mwonzora lost the support of his lieutenants following the party’s dismal performance in the March by-elections. MDC-T lost to the extent of getting zero votes in various polling stations.
The decision to continue recalling people from both Parliament and the council when the party is not intending to contest for the seats in by-elections has also not gone down well with others.
Recently, the party chairman had indicated that the party would contest in by-elections only for Mwonzora to dismiss the claim.
MDC-T is expected to hold its 5th Congress in mid-December where several party bigwigs will compete for other posts.
Seasoned female politician Paurina Mpariwa is eyeing the 2nd Vice President Post that Mudzuri currently holds.
