Masvingo Province Youth Quota legislator in the National Assembly Naledi Lindarose Maunganidze Madzara has been appointed to the Speaker’s Panel.
Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda made the announcement which was greeted by ullulation from some members.
‘’Honourable Naledi Maunganidze joins the Speaker’s Panel. Can you come and take your seat,’’ he said
The Speaker Panel is composed of legislators who are appointed to act on behalf of the Speaker or Deputy Speaker when they are absent or are not able to discharge their duties.
Maunganidze’s appointment to the Speaker’s Panel is a positive development for youth empowerment and may act as an inspiration for other young people to aspire for high offices in politics.
In the 9th Parliament, another youthful legislator Tatenda Mavetera was also on the Speaker’s Panel and was instrumental in the formation of the Parliamentary Youth Caucus in the National Assembly.
The constitution of Zimbabwe has a provision of 10 seats created for young people.-
