Parliament of Zimbabwe is set to conduct major maintenance work on its power grid ahead of Thursday’s Budget Presentation.
The move, announced by Clerk of Parliament Kennedy Chokuda, follows controversial power disruptions in previous editions of national events hosted by Parliament.
Addressing Legislators in a 20 November statement Chokuda said there will be a major maintenance work on the Parliament’s electricity grid.
This serves to notify you of a major maintenance work on the Parliament grid and associated infrastructure.
“(This is) scheduled for Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd November 2025 at the New parliament Building”.
Parliament has experienced disruptive power cuts at three recent events attended by President Mnangagwa.
Recently, Mnangagwa had to finish his State of the Nation address using a torch after another power outage.
The unusual occurrence resulted in the suspension of Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) Managing Director Abel Gurupira.
Meanwhile conspiracies about factional political actors conspiring to create the power challenges also floated around.
The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has also been ordered to set up their equipment as soon as possible.
This is meant to avoid any technical glitches.
A Legislator who spoke on condition of anonymity said ‘the latest steps are meant to prevent the embarrassment experienced previously’.
He added that Parliament was leaving no stone unturned as the previous incidents sparked debates about foul play.
