Mnangagwa tables 27 Bills for the 4th Session

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has tabled about 27 bills that are expected to be tabled in parliament up to September next year (2022).

The President was speaking during the official opening of the 4th Session of the 9th Parliament of Zimbabwe.

A Parliament session in Zimbabwe runs from September to September.

Referring to Parliament, Mnangagwa urged the legislators to have a common desire to enact laws that are in line with the developmental agenda of the country.

‘’To our Parliamentarians, I wish to reiterate the need to expedite the legislative work that lies ahead. For the remainder of this year and going into 2022, let there be common desire to prioritise the enactment of laws which reflect and give impetus to the developmental aspirations of our people,’’ he said.

Progress on the law alignment process

Meanwhile, Mnangagwa has also updated the nation on the law alignment process that is currently happening.

He indicated that only 42 statutes are remaining to complete the alignment process.

‘’I am aware that some Bills could not be disposed with and were carried over from the Third Session. Of the existing statutes which requires to be aligned to the constitution, it is pleasing that only 42 statutes remain to be enacted under the alignment process. These must be completed in this session.

‘’13 Bills are still with the respective line ministries, of these, the principles of the two bills have been approved by Cabinet, while 11 are still with ministries.

‘’The second republic will continue to maintain its responsive and proactive stance to emerging needs of our society by ensuring that the law is a tool for development,’’ he said.
